Football Team are County Runners-Up

On Friday 18th January, the football team attended the Somerset County Finals for small schools at Strode College in Street. They did incredibly well and finished as runners-up after being narrowly defeated in the final after extra-time. It was a whole day of competition which began with five group stage matches. In these, they won four and lost one, to end as group winners. The semi-final was next and it was a very close match with East Harptree that ended 2-2 after extra time and so went to penalties. This brought great drama with Farmborough scoring all of theirs whilst a miss and brilliant save from Sol meant that it was a 4-2 win and into the final amidst great cheers from our hardy band of supporters, that had stayed throughout in the bitter cold. The final was against Long Sutton School and proved to be another tight game; Farmborough took the lead in the first half, but a second-half equaliser took it to extra-time, during which the opposition got a winner. The team were naturally devastated at the end, after giving everything and getting so far - especially as we had finished runners-up last year. Well done to Sol, Ben, Jai, Thomas, Scarlett, Jack, Charlie and James – you were a brilliant team and it’s a great achievement.
