Homework - 04/09/24Spellings - Week 6 (07/10/24)

Homework is sent home on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday (or earlier if finished). Spelling assessments will take place on the following Friday.

Terms 1 & 2

We'll begin our year with a voyage across the Atlantic to South America. This term will have a Geography focus as we begin to set the scene and understand the context of the continent ahead of our learning about the ancient Maya in Term 2. We will compare the UK & Brazil, investigating the geographical and cultural similarities and differences between our countries, as well as honing our skills as geographers.

Our Class Reading Book: Term 1

My Name is River

"An exciting ecological adventure that is full of heart."

My Name is River is a story rich with evocative description, exciting action and endearing characters. Themes of friendship, ecology and environmental issues make this a perfect book for our first term.

Dylan’s mum thinks he’s on the school Geography trip. Dylan’s teacher thinks he’s at home with the flu. In fact he’s 30,000 feet up in the air on the way to Brazil. When Dylan’s farm is snatched away by a huge global company, he can’t just sit back and watch. But the journey to rescue his home takes him deep into the heart of the Amazon. With Floyd, a friend he’s not sure of, and Lucia, a street kid armed with a thesaurus and a Great Dane puppy, he uncovers dark and dangerous secrets and learns some surprising truths.

Important Information

Reading

The children should all have a reading book which they bring into school every day. Free readers can choose these from home or our class collections and we ask them to read a variety of authors and genres over the course of the year. Those not yet free readers should bring in a book of their choice as well as their school reading book.

Please remember to sign your child’s home/school book each day that they read at home so that they can get all their certificates and rewards.
They need to be brought in every day and reading points will be collected each Friday. Thank you!

Badgers, if you're deciding on your next book, take a look at some of these suggestions. You could encounter some unforgettable new characters, meet some very familiar faces or discover lots of fascinating new facts! Which books would you add?
