Term 5 & 6
In Terms 5 & 6, we'll be exploring Britain's varied coastline, learning about its Geographical importance and the role that coastlines played in the Second World War. We'll also explore how the War started, what Britain was like during the war and how homes and shelter played a part.

Our Class Reading Book: Terms 5 / 6

This is a brilliant and important book from one of the UK's greatest poets and writers. He gets under Leonard's skin as he illustrates his life from a young boy to a devastated man in his 70s, and shows us that history is a continuum - it's about real people who in this case are still feeling the impact of the scandal. We’re all part of the story.
A book to make children and adults alike think hard about our history, about racism and the Black Lives Matter movement, about fairness, about politics - and also about bravery and unsung heroes. |

A tender and beautifully evoked story which sweeps readers back into the Second World War era.
When the war thrusts scrawny evacuee Willie Beech into the care of a gruff old man, an unlikely bond flourishes between them. But as Willie enjoys his first ever taste of kindness, suddenly his happiness is under threat again…
This heartwarming classic sets universal human themes against a stunning and memorable wartime backdrop. |
Important Information
Reading
The children should all have a reading book which they bring into school every day. Free readers can choose these from home or our class collections and we ask them to read a variety of authors and genres over the course of the year. Those not yet free readers should bring in a book of their choice as well as their school reading book.
Please remember to sign your child’s home/school book each day that they read at home so that they can get all their certificates and rewards. They need to be brought in every day and reading points will be collected each Friday. Thank you!
Badgers, if you're deciding on your next book, take a look at some of these suggestions. You could encounter some unforgettable new characters, meet some very familiar faces or discover lots of fascinating new facts! Which books would you add?

P.E. / Swimming
Our P.E. days for Terms 5 & 6 are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please come to school wearing your Farmborough School P.E. uniform on these days:
- Farmborough House Group t-shirt or a plain coloured t-shirt in your house colour
- Navy blue/black sports shorts, skorts or joggers
- Plimsolls or trainers
- Sports socks
- Outdoor kit for cooler/wetter weather eg long joggers and plain/school hoodie or sweatshirt
We won’t run lessons outdoors in very wet weather, but it will be really useful for the children to bring in a spare set of clothes and footwear when the weather's not so great. If preferred, these spares can be left in school in your child’s P.E. bag.
- The children will all need to have a water bottle in school every day.
- They'll also all need a rainproof coat with hood and wellies in a named carrier bag in school every day. Again, please check that everything that's worn or brought in is clearly named.
